GWTC 10K Series is Back in 2022
Michael KennettThe GWTC 10K Series will be back in 2022, but with a slight change. In the past, the Club would select a number of local 10K races and provide an award to members who completed a certain number of them. For 2022, however, GWTC members can select the races for themselves. During the next calendar year, simply run at least six 10K races within a 100-mile radius of Tallahassee and you qualify for an award (usually an article or two of clothing). So that your successful completion of each race can be tracked, please email Michael Kennett at mtkyuma@yahoo.com with your finishing time and bib number. We’ll do the rest. Awards will be given out at the Club’s annual party.
If you’re looking for races, please check the GWTC website or the “Tallahassee 100-Mile Race Calendar” on Herb Wills’ troubleafoot.blogspot.com website. Updated weekly, Herb’s calendar includes a map as well as registration information for upcoming races. For a local run, consider the upcoming Trent 10k on January 29th. After that, you would only have five 10K’s to go.
Remember, any 10K race within 100 miles of Tallahassee qualifies. However, recurring races (e.g. a weekly or monthly race on the same course) can only count once per calendar year. The monthly Callaway Recreational Park race in Panama City is an example. Run it as many times as you would like, but you’ll only get series credit once. If a different race uses the same course, though, then both races can count toward the series. For example, if a Spring race uses the Turkey Trot course, then you can get credit for running both races.
Thanks for considering the 10K series in 2022. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Kennett at mtkyuma@yahoo.com.
