New Business
Mark Priddy – Mark provided a Grand Prix/Awards Committee Report to the Board. A request was made last month by a board member to review and update the Grand Prix (GP) race application and to consider including all club races on the Grand Prix race circuit each year. In response, the GP Committee made some revisions to the application and will ask that it be posted on the web site as soon as it is finished. The GP Committee decided not to include all club races on the GP circuit each year and will continue to follow current Club policy on deciding what races are chosen. Another issue that was discussed was a previous request by a board member to review the procedures for early starts at races and also review the GP Committee’s decision on whether to award points due to confusion regarding one runner’s early start at a recent 5k. The GP Committee voted to uphold their original decision and will not award GP points to any individual who does not notify the GWTC timekeeper of their intent to start early. There must be an official recorded race start and finish time. Judy Alexander thanked Mark for his report on this issue; however stated that she did not agree with the decision made concerning the affected runner at the recent 5k. The final issue presented concerned Club policies regarding runners ages 80 and over. The GP Committee supported a policy change for senior club members (ages 80 and over) to qualify for grand prix awards after completing two rather than three GP races each year. This would become effective this year, 2012. The motion was seconded, and approved.
Bob Lotane – Bob presented a $500 check to the Chenoweth Committee and thanked the Board for all the assistance the Club provides to the race directors of the Robin Lotane Hurricane 5k race. Bob also announced that the race will occur again this year and they could use some volunteers.

The Chenoweth Committee approved the request for $1,000. A motion was made to approve the request, seconded, and passed.
Triathlon Report – Jerry Chesnutt for Bill Dillon
Prior to the meeting, Bill sent the following email: “In June the Tri Club was fortunate enough to have two very good speakers present to its membership, as well as members of the GWTC and general public. On June 16th the Club heard from Dr. Dan Benardot, a nationally recognized expert in nutrition and hydration, who spoke at the Hotel Duval. The presentation was well attended and the comments were positive. At the Club’s regular monthly meeting on June 18th, Robin Gibson, Director of Sports Medicine at FSU, held a roundtable discussion with members dealing with injury prevention and recovery. The Club also solicited the input of its members on the club’s Grand Prix structure and process and the Club’s bylaws. The Grand Prix input was received via an online survey which recently ended. We hope to make the results available at the August meeting. The Club bylaws were also presented to the members, however, due to a delay in posting on the Club website we plan to continue soliciting comments for the month of July. It is our intention to bring the Club bylaws back to the GWTC board in August and request final approval.”
