GULF WINDS TRACK CLUB Minutes

Present: Felton Wright, Jerry Chesnutt, Herb Wills, Judy Alexander, Lisa Unger, David Yon, Charlie Yates, Vicky Droze, Mary Jean Yon, Bill Lott, Kathy McDaris, Jackie McDaniel, Chuck Davis, Brian Corbin, Peg Griffin, Gary Griffin, Paula O’Neill, Seeley Gutierrez, Bill Hillison, and James Chapman.

Judy Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Quorum was established.

The Board reviewed the October minutes. A motion was made to approve the minutes, seconded and approved.

New Business

James Chapman – Mr. Chapman has developed a free online health and wellness tracking service designed to help people track their exercises and compete in mileage and points-based wellness challenges with others. This is a group based social website. Mr. Chapman asked the Board if a link could be provided on the GWTC webpage that will link interested parties to his website. He also asked if GWTC would be a sponsor. It was agreed that GWTC could provide a link as has been done for other web pages with running related information, but no consensus was reached on sponsorship.

Peg and Gary Griffin – Peg and Gary presented a proposed budget for the upcoming Tallahassee Ultra Distance Classic (50 Mile/50K) race. A motion was made to approve the budget as presented, seconded and approved.

Bill Hillison – Bill made a presentation of the committee’s findings on the RFID (Chip) Race Scoring System. After discussion among board members, a motion was made to purchase the system per the committee’s report in whatever way is in the best interest of the Club’s finances. The motion was seconded and approved. Felton Wright asked that a policy be developed to ensure that over time, the money paid for the scoring system is recouped by races that will be using the system.

Mary Jean Yon – Mary Jean presented the final results of the election for club officers and directors-at-large for 2012. The results are as follows: President – Judy Alexander; Vice-President – Felton Wright; Treasurer – Jerry Chesnutt; Secretary – Jackie McDaniel. Director-at-Large Positions: David Yon, Lisa Unger, Herb Wills, Chuck Davis and Nancy Stedman.

Herb Wills – Herb presented a proposed budget for the Tannenbaum Trail 6K to be held at the Apalachee Regional Park on December 17. A motion was made to approve the budget as presented, seconded, and approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt

There is $18,382 in the Club’s checking account and $77,074 in a certificate of deposit. The Chenoweth fund has $10,769.

Membership Report –Mark Priddy

The Club has 1,710 members in 958 households. Membership renewal notices will be sent out later this month.

Race Director Coordinator Report –Charlie Yates

The Fall 2011 calendar is full and in good shape. Charlie reports that the calendar for 2012 is starting to take shape also.

Newsletter Report – Fred Deckert

Clothing Coordinator Report – Paula O’Neill

There were no sales of merchandise this month. Paula reported that she has ordered long sleeve bright green reflective shirts that will go on sale soon.

Equipment Report – Jackie McDaniel for Vicky Verano

The last few months have been busy; however things are starting to taper down. Vicky has $900 to deposit. All in all it has been a smooth year so far.

Website Report – David Yon

Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon

A request was made for $1500 to assist with funding the High School Cross Country All Star Meet. The Chenoweth Committee approved the request for $500. A motion was made to approve the Committee’s request of $500, was seconded, and approved.

Triathlon Report – Kathy McDaris

Kathy presented the final results of the election for Tri Club President and Secretary for 2012. The results are as follows: President – Bill Dillon and Secretary – Ron Morrell. Three members of the Tri Club participated in the Savannah Marathon last weekend. Nineteen Tri Club members participated in Ironman Florida on November 5. The Tri Club Holiday Party will be held at the Tap Room on December 10, in the late afternoon, so members can watch the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship.

Lecture Series Report – Judy Alexander for Nancy Stedman

The next event in the Lecture Series will be held December 2nd at Boot Camp Fitness and will include an open house and an introduction of their programs.

Training Report – Chuck Davis

A training group has been formed to do the Turkey Trot races. The group meets on Monday evenings at 6:00 p.m. at the YMCA in South wood. The last few weeks, between 20 and 30 runners have joined the group. Another training group will be starting November 10th and will be focused on running the Thomasville Road Baptist Church 10K. That group will meet on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Chuck reminded us that there is a group of runners who focus on interval training meeting at Leon High School on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p. m. Everyone is invited to join them.

speakers about the Club and motivation, nutrition, yoga, medical benefits of running, stretching, and proper running shoes. The graduation run is the FSU Cares 5k on Sunday, November 13.

Social Coordinator Report – Judy Alexander for Elizabeth Stupi

The November social will be the Turkey Trot Music Fest which will be held at Chez Pierre on November 20. This year’s Holiday Party will be held Friday, December 9th from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. The Groove Merchants will be this year’s band.

There being no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and passed unanimously at 9:03 p.m.
