Coach Chris SumnerSome were nervous about the weather Saturday, but luckily it moved on by and left us with a beautiful cross country Saturday. The FSU invite gave many of us a look at what some of the other teams around the state look like. Smoking Joe proved he is The Best in the state, beating the rest of the state leaders he hasn’t faced yet. On the girls side Chiles and Maclay both had good performances. All around, there were tons of great performances and I’m sure everyone enjoyed the race. One note I would like to point out though, the times for the boys are clearly off after the first runner. I don’t really know what the problem was, but just keep in mind before the athletes start whining. The girls is off too, but not by much.
This coming weekend should be an exciting one. The day will start off out at Silver Lake with the Prefontaine Classic 5K. Finally the girls get to show the guys how to run as this race will be co-ed. Then most of the elite programs will be headed down to Tampa for the Southern Stars night run. This will be one of the biggest showdowns of the season. The course is the old state meet course at Ed Radice and should be blazing fast. I’m expecting the Honor Roll to be completely different next week. Watch for Chiles, Leon, Maclay (girls), and Joe. For those watching the rest of the district there will be a race in Pensacola hosted by Pine Forest that will help give a little insight to what they have over there. Good luck to everyone this weekend.
On a final note, I have to give props to Carly Thomas on a very good performance in the open race Saturday. Carly is an 8th grader at Raa and has worked extremely hard this summer. Well deserved win! Thursday, the Leon County Middle Schools will be out at Gretchen Everhart for the famous Owl Run. If you can get out there to help out, it would be greatly appreciated and you will truly enjoy seeing the young ones race.
