One of the toughest things about being a race director is not ever really being able to properly thank all of the wonderful volunteers who make it all come together in the end.
I was especially impressed with all of the teenagers who ventured out into the cold at 7 in the morning on a day when their counterparts still had several hours left to spend in the warmth of their beds.
Many, many thanks to the volunteers, runners & walkers who make GWTC events worthwhile, & especially to my wonderful husband, Brian, without whom I wouldn’t even attempt to direct any race at all, my daughter, Whitney, who is my right hand woman, & to Perha & Jim Varley who make everything a pleasure.
Peg Griffin & Bill Hillison provided accurate & timely results, Bill Lott was his usual multi-tasking self, providing everything from course marking to all of the very important finish line functions.
Volunteers included Jonathan Bonesteel, Tom Scott, Jere Moore, Jeff Givens, Stephanie Peacock, Toma Wilkerson, Gordon Cherr, Charlie Yates, Stephen Buchanan & Son, Jeff & Dan Kuperberg’s boys, Lucy Lovett, Calvin Vannoy, Cheslyn Alexander, Jenny Lindsay, Geoff & son Phillip Wenturine, Terry & son Cameron Massa & her wonderful Everhart Crew, Bill Mcguire, Stacia Keller, Gary Griffin, Terry Ryan, Jo Lena Pace, Jeff Bryan, Joe & Nadine Dexter, Fred & Margarete Deckert, Cass Vickers, & I’m sure there are others I’m neglecting to remember…please forgive me, but let me know you were there!
It sounds corny, but it’s so very true…without the support of the wonderful people who volunteer their time & energy to work these events, there wouldn’t any events at all!
