An Eagle eye view of the district 1A meet
April 18, Maclay High SchoolBy Judy Alexander
Our Eagles overcame brutally hot & sunny conditions (hottest day we’ve had so far at 90 degrees), to make an impressive showing at the district meet yesterday.
Michelle Jenije showed her prowess in the field events by tying for first in the long jump & taking 2nd place in the triple jump. She also placed in the open 200 race. Since she is only in 6th grade, I’m sure we’ll see her name many more times before she graduates in 2008!
Whitney Alexander & Abby Gilbert (more 6th graders!) braved the heat & ran the farthest distance of anyone on our team. Each ran in the 1600 (1 mile) & 3200 (2 miles) events. It was obvious that they dug deep to make points for the team!
Ricky Miracle, Stephen Brady, Tyler Braman, Kristy Cribley, & the newest addition to our distance team, Kara Taylor, all ran respectable races, once again showing that only 100 percent was good enough for each of their events!
Hance Haugen, our last season’s Coach’s award recipient in cross country, ran well even though he has a fractured elbow.
Coach Walker mentioned that each of the members of our Eagles team will be receiving varsity letters for their contributions in the district meet to NFC’s spot at next week’s regional meet at FSU!!
We have a lot to be proud of in these young people!
