One hundred and fifty or so runners braved the rain while chasing points in the second GWTC grand prix race of 2001 Feb. 10. Gary Droze made his entry into the grand prix competition by winning the race in an unofficial time of 16:48 to capture 30 points. Sarah Docter-Williams won her second straight grand prix event by winning the women’s race in 18:18 (approximately). Gary and Sarah both ran away from their closest competition early and stayed well ahead.
1998 Co-Race directors of the year for GWTC, Larry Guinipero and Bill Hillison, have put together and maintained a first class race. The certified 5K race loops through Innovation Park beginning on Pottsdamer road near the FSU golf course and benefits FSU scholarship funds. This year Larry and Bill took on another challenge and raised $250 for the Tim Simpkins Scholarship Fund. Cora and Rachael Simpkins were on hand to accept the award.
