Margarete Deckert celebrated her 67th birthday by driving through the fog to win her age group at the Flash 12K Feb. 19 with a time of 72:28. All right, so she did not have any age group competition, but that is still a very good time. Sarah Docter-Williams led the women’s field running a 46: 06, to win by a wide margin for her fourth straight Flash win. Mike Strickland, visiting from Atlanta, took off at the start and left the rest of the field far behind. He ran one of the fastest times ever – 39: 44. Mike coaches high school distance runners in Atlanta. Robin Roberts holds the course record, 38:02 in 1994. The masters winners were Jeff Nielsen, 44:37, and Mary Jean Yon, 54:07.
The race was well organized and went off without any problems. Joe Dexter’s event raised $300 for the Trail Association and $300 for the club.
