For many of us motoring past the age of forty means the end of things like personal bests. Well the author of that story forgot to share the plot with Donna Whitworth. Donna skipped past those chapters to win women’s race in the 2002 version of Rails to Trails in a PB of 19:25, despite very warm conditions. The 40 barrier was no match for Gary Droze on this day either as he ran away from the field to take the men’s title in a time of 16:50. Stephanie Lyles ran an outstanding time of 19:45 to keep the pressure on Donna and to finish second in the women’s division. Timothy Boulden made sure youth was represented by finishing second in a time of 17:48.
Casey Fort took the title for the boys in the one mile as he ran a 6:42 mile to edge David Jones who was second in 6:57. Heather Brown took the girls title with a time of 7:29 pulling away from Laura Newsome in the last 400 meters. Laura finished in 7:33.
One hundred and twenty five finishes completed the 5K that was directed by Joe Beckham, Pattie Sudduth and Joe Dexter. Twenty runners finished the one mile.
