Bob Braman is doing his best to build a quality distance program at FSU and his efforts paid off at the Stanford Invitational March 29-30 when two FSU runners picked up NCAA automatic qualifiers in the 10,000. According to the FSU web site (http://www.fsu.edu/track) both Vicky Gill and Joep Tigchelaar qualified automatically for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships when they ran 33:59.67 and 28:55.36. Gill’s time broke the FSU record for 10,000 for women, while Tigchelaar just missed the men’s record. The men’s record set in 1971 is 28:55.34 and is held by Tallahassee resident Ken Misner. The previous women’s record, 34:42.73, belonged to Darien Andreu and had stood since 1981.
The FSU team has been a great supporter of GWTC helping out with a number of our events. It is terrific to see them improving and doing well.
