Another nice day, another good race for Deerlake Middle School as Kathy O’Halloran directed the fall fund raiser for the school Oct. 30. A total of 121 people, including most of the Deerlake football team, completed the out and back course. And speaking of teams, FSU’s cross country team had a number of participants, including the top two finishers, at the race to provide Tim Simpkins with a run for his money. The overall male winner was Dan Clark, finishing with an impressive time of 16:12. Ryan Hicks was second in 16:22, just 2 seconds ahead of masters winner Tim Simpkins.
Sarah Docter-Williams trained through this race, but still ran 17:54 to beat second place Kingsley Broughton who finished in 19:38. Brandi Rook, another FSU runner, was third in 21:00 minutes. Mary Jean Yon took the masters title by running 21:08.
A special mention and hearty welcome back goes to Kiff Mendoza, long ago President of GWTC. It was the first sighting of Kiff at a 5K in a long time, and while his time of 19:50 was quite respectable, he promised faster times were on their way. Special thanks to Joe Dexter for the results.
