Gulf Winds Track Club Minutes
of the July 10, 2013 Board Meeting Hosted by Mark PriddyPresent: Jerry Chesnutt, Lisa Unger, Tom Perkins, Mark Priddy, Tony Guillen, Nancy Stedman, Paul Guyas, Bill Lott, Mary Jean Yon, David Yon, Bobby York, Charlie Yates, Mike Burns, Herb Wills, and Jackie McDaniel
Lisa Unger called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m. Quorum was established.
The Board reviewed the June minutes. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the minutes as presented.
New Business
Bobby York – The Salomon Shoe Company provided bags for all the runners and also provided 8 pair of running shoes that are given away during raffles. 115 people have paid for the full series of four races and a total of 130 people are registered for the remaining three races. There may be a social at the last race. Registration is closed for the remaining races, in order to not exceed trail capacity.
Paul Guyas – Paul suggested the Club purchase a projector and screen for use during the lecture series and any additional presentations that may occur. After some discussion among board members, a motion was made for Paul to spend up to $1,000 for the purchase of a projector and screen. The motion was seconded and approved.
Lisa Unger – Lisa presented a proposed budget for the 2013 Women’s Distance Festival. A motion was made to approve the budget as presented. The motion was seconded and approved.
Tom Perkins – Tom presented a proposed budget for the 2013 Miller Landing Madness races. A motion was made to approve the budget as presented. The motion was seconded and approved.
Tony Guillen – The upcoming Color Run is not sponsored by the City of Tallahassee and the City has raised some concerns about the impact the color races have on the environment. The Club has not been asked by the race directors to rent equipment and is not a sponsor of the race. For now the Board was recommending we not rent equipment to such races.
Old Business
Jackie McDaniel for Felton Wright – Last month the Board agreed to purchase up to 10 mile marker medallions to be put in the sidewalk of the new Cascades Park trail if the City would put GWTC’s name on them. They have agreed to this and are hiring the design company now. They will send us the artwork for approval soon.
Treasurer’s Report – Jerry Chesnutt
There is $142,319 in the Club’s checking account that includes $5,548 in the Event 1 Account, $5,000 in the Event 2 account, and $67,386 in the General Operating account. The Chenoweth Fund account has $14,034. There is an additional $50,531 in the investment account, $9,841 in the Tri Club account, and $9,218 in the assets replacement account.
Membership Report – Mark Priddy
Currently, there are 1,886 members in 1,024 households. This is an increase of 60 members and 25 households over last month.
Race Director Coordinator Report – Charlie Yates
Race calendar continues to have additions and changing race dates. It is a busy time for scheduling.
Newsletter Report –Fred Deckert
Nothing new to report.
Clothing Coordinator Report –Paula O’Neill (via email)
Paula sold $25 worth of clothing this month.
Equipment Report – Vicky Verano (via email)
Everything is running smoothly.
Website Report – David Yon
Nothing new to report.
Chenoweth Fund Report – David Yon
The Capital City Christian Cruisers (CCCC) requested financial assistance in the amount of $1,000 for runners to go to Nationals. The Chenoweth Committee approved $1,000. A motion was made to approve this request. It was seconded and approved.
Triathlon Report –Bobby York for Rob McNeely
The Tri Club kits are in and distribution is underway. The second race in the Youth Triathlon Series is Sunday, July 14, and more volunteers are needed. The Tri Club was able to get ten slots for the New York City triathlon in the lottery. The Grand Prix series is half over, and there has been good participation. Several men and women members of the Tri Club have been podium finishers in recent out of town races.
Lecture Series – Paul Guyas
The next lecture series event will be a Sports Medicine Open House at the Florida State University Athletic Training Room and will be hosted by Robin Gibson. The date is July 31 at 7 pm.
