Tom Perkins called the meeting to order at 7:46 PM and quorum was established. The February minutes were read and accepted by motion, 2nd and vote.
NEW BUSINESS:
On Behalf of Jeanne O’Kon, Tom Perkins opened discussion about the Cookie Run and Marathon dates that have been conflicting. Tom indicated that the Cookie Run date is fixed as the opening day of Girl Scout cookie sales. It would be good to have the Cookie Run and the Marathon scheduled for separate weekend. Tom also reported that 5 race directors are retiring from GWTC races. They are: the Marathon, the 30k, the 10 Mile Challenge, the Springtime 10k and the Women’s Distance Festival. Replacement race directors will be needed. Tom further reported that according to TPD, the traffic control for the Springtime 10k must be performed by TPD officers and not race volunteers, which will be costly to the race.
REPORTS:
Clothing Coordinator report – Margarete Deckert reported that the GWTC merchandise will be available for purchase at the Springtime 10k.
Newsletter report – Fred Deckert discussed the per-page pricing of Fleet Foot advertising and presented a new pricing schedule. A motion was made to accept the rate change, which was seconded and approved by vote. Fred also discussed implementing a proof reading system for the Fleet Foot. Fred advised the board that the Couples Caper will cease due to low participation.
Treasurer’s report – Bonnie Wright discussed the Budget and Treasurer’s reports, which included recent disbursements and receipts. Bonnie reported that some races made profits but also that she paid out some major expenses such as the medals for the Springtime 10k.
Racing Team Coordinator report – Tim Unger reported that there will be 5 teams entered in the Gate River Run, including a Grand Masters team. Tim reported that he will be setting up a staging area for GWTC team members at the Gate River Run using his personal shade canopy and the GWTC feather flag. Tim is coordinating teams for the Azalea Trail 10k in Mobile, AL. Tim modeled the new 2004 GWTC Racing Team singlets and presented singlets to Jerry Ongley and Hobson Fulmer.
Membership report – Jerry Ongley reported for Brian Corbin that there are currently 594 members represented by 334 memberships.
Training Committee Report – Nadine Dexter reported that there are about 70 members in the Springtime 10k training class. The class will run the whole course and then have breakfast on the Sunday before the race (3/28) and Nadine indicated that there is still a lot of enthusiasm.
Equipment report – Joe Dexter turned in several rental fee checks and announced that the GWTC trailer will be in the Springtime parade.
Chenoweth report -David Yon reported that the Seminole Invitational Track meet will take place on April 9th & 10th and called for volunteers. The Pot Luck will be run on 6/5. David reported that the committee recommends funding for the Kids Tri in the amount of $500.00 and for the Trailblazers for $1000.00. Motions were made to approve both, which were seconded and passed by vote.
Social Coordinator report – Bonnie Wright reported for Jimmy Kalfas that there will be a breakfast social on the Sunday before the Springtime 10k (3/28).
Triathlete report – Tony Guillen reported that Kathy McDaris is doing a great job of directing the Red Hills Tri which will take place on 3/27 at 7am in Maclay Gardens. There will a .3 mile swim, an 18 mile bike ride and a 3.2 mile run. So far they have about 200 pre-registered participants, with a cap of 350. The registrations are about half local athletes and half out of town participants. The host hotel is the Cabot Lodge, but rooms are also available at the Hilton Gardens and the Marriott North for this event. There is a web page with more information at www.redhillstri.org . The last tri training clinic will be held on 3/14. Tony also reported that the Triathletes will meet at Beef O’Brady’s on 3/12 and that Kiko Cintron will give a lecture about preventing injuries. There will also be a free style swimming lecture at Premiere Fitness Club and the Kids’ Tri will be held on 5/16.
