The 14th Annual Everhart Owl Run is scheduled for Thursday morning, Oct. 2nd. It is actually a series of runs, with the Everhart students running or walking 1/2 mile at 10:30, the Leon County middle schools girls 2 mile going at 10:45, and the boys 2 mile at 11:15.
The 2 mile is a combination cross country/road run, while the 1/2 mile is held entirely on the grass field behind the school. Technical assistance for the event is provided by Gulf Winds Track Club, and annually features the most festive finish line seen at any local race (courtesy of Ray Hanlon and Bill Lott).
This Owl Run has traditionally been a real favorite with the athletes and spectators alike. As always, we would greatly appreciate volunteers, but we also welcome anyone who would rather just come out and watch these young runners perform. As anybody who has ever attended the Owl Run can tell you, it is something special!
It all happens at Gretchen Everhart School, 2750 Mission Rd., just west of Appleyard Drive. If you’d like to volunteer, or have any questions about the event, please e-mail me at bmcguire31@comcast.net. Hope some of you can make it!
