Celebrate Earth Day 2000 (April 22) by running or walking in one of the events of the Paynes Prairie Running & Walking Festival on the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail, a paved, winding recreational greenway, with a parallel grass horse trail, that extends from the trailhead at the City of Gainesville’s historic Boulware Springs Park through the northern rim of the Paynes Prairie State Preserve and the Lochloosa Wildlife Conservation District to the trailhead at the City of Hawthorne.
The Paynes Prairie Running & Walking Festival offers a smorgasbord of distances sure to appeal to every runner’s and walker’s taste.
The featured event for the Festival is the La Chua 50K, the first ultramarathon in the North Central Florida area. For those not quite ready to go an ultra distance, but who want to experience the flavor of an ultra event, the Festival presents the La Chua 50K Relay, the Prairie Creek 10 Miler, the Prairie Sunrise 7K and the Sweetwater Ramble, a 1.5 mile fun run/walk.
